Off-Premise Sales Dip 4%

Off-Premise sales value for domestic table and sparkling wine came to $928.7 million in the four weeks ended Aug. 10 declining 4% compared to the same time last year. Sales volume in the most recent four weeks totaled 8.5 million, which is 6% less than last year. Sales value in the latest 52 weeks came to $13.6 billion, according to off-premise data by NIQ. Table wine value fell 4% while sparkling wine value fell 7%. Sales volumes fell more than 6% in the latest 52 weeks to 123 million cases, with table wine volume declining by 6% and sparkling wine sales dropping nearly 8% compared to last year.

On-premise spending in the 52 weeks ended June 15 decreased nearly 2% to $14.4 billion, according to CGA by NIQ. All wine types reported declines, the greatest of which was for pink, or rosé, wines, which fell 8.2% to $590 million. Domestic wines declined nearly 3% to $8.7 billion; imported wines also saw a decline but less than 1% to $5.4 billion. 

Even as the channels tracked by NIQ show declines, the total wine market in the U.S. grew more than 3% in value during the 12 months ended August to $108.5 billion. Preliminary figures by bw166 showed domestic wines, including bulk imports, drove the growth, gaining 5% to $78.3 billion.
